The Australian Bushfire Crisis

The Australian Bushfire Crisis

The great country of Australia was rocked to the core by a barrage of bushfires that have destroyed houses, land reserves, and lives of millions of animals in the country this year. The world watches as all of this unfolds, but not without showing their support by providing much-needed aid for the people and the animals.

News of the fires quickly spread to different parts of the globe due to the power and influence of social media and top celebrities that have voiced out the need to help Australia.

During the 77th Annual Golden Globes Awards, Australian native and well-renowned actor Russell Crowe was not present. However, he sent a statement about the fires:

The tragedy unfolding in Australia is climate change-based. We need to act based on science, move our global workforce to renewable energy and respect our planet for the unique and amazing place it is. That way we all have a future, thank you."

Many celebrities like the lip-kit mogul and reality star Kylie Jenner donated millions to the Queensland Firefighters to aid the people and animals affected by the fires. In this day and age, the credibility of online news leaves much to be determined as almost anyone can post just about anything without much difficulty.

This poses a threat as many organizations and Australia’s government stress the importance of researching before accepting news online as the truth.

According to Australia’s Country Fire Authority "Experience tells us that donation of money is much more effective and provides more flexibility than the donation of material items or pre-loved goods.

At this stage, we're unable to accept donations of furniture or any other hard goods as we’re unable to store or sort them. Please hold onto your donations until it is known what those affected need."

There are key things to know about how the Australian bushfires started and an insightful piece to read is done by Vox, more to this, if you are considering donating to the country here, are some accredited organizations and sites where you can do this:
